Call for calm amidst communal tensions

Call for calm amidst communal tensions in Haryana via committee

In the wake of recent communal tensions in Nuh, Haryana, a committee consisting of 51 individuals convened a mahapanchayat to address the situation and put forth demands. The gathering followed violent clashes that resulted in casualties and disruption. Organized by a Hindu group, the event aimed to discuss responses to the ongoing unrest.

Incidents of Hate Speech:

Despite the stipulation against hate speech for permissions to hold large gatherings, some speakers at the event issued open threats in the Palwal district, where police were present. The committee clarified that while organizers had warned against such rhetoric, certain speakers disregarded these guidelines. One speaker notably declared, "if you raise a finger, we will cut off your hands," while another called for firearm licenses.

Committee's Demands and Recommendations:

The committee addressed various issues they believed were contributing to the conflict. They suggested abolishing the Nuh district and declared the area should be designated as "cow slaughter free." Cow smuggling was identified as the root cause of local disputes. The committee proposed establishing a paramilitary force headquarters in Nuh to ensure security and called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the violent events that transpired on July 31.

Compensation and Measures for Peace:

The committee extended demands for compensation to the affected families. They sought ₹1 crore each for the families of those killed in the communal clashes and ₹50 lakh each for the injured parties. Additionally, they urged the recovery of damages incurred during the riots from the accused parties.

Preventive Measures and Calls for Unity:

The committee emphasized the importance of strict laws for individuals arriving from other countries, advocating for their removal. They suggested that the people of Nuh and Palwal be provided with arms for self-defense, upon request. Furthermore, they recommended transferring cases from Nuh to other districts, including Gurugram.

Upcoming Initiatives:

In an effort to address these issues and promote unity, the committee announced plans for the Jalahishek Yatra on August 28 in Nuh. They also called for the release of individuals they deemed "innocent," who had been implicated in cases related to the recent turmoil.
The mahapanchayat and its committee serve as a platform for voicing concerns, addressing grievances, and proposing solutions to the ongoing communal tensions. While navigating the complexities of the situation, their recommendations and calls for calm aim to promote harmony and stability in the region.
